TGIP STARTS A NEW INITIATIVE ON SEPTEMBER 1, 2005:  KATRINA+FRESH START. CLICK HERE TO REVIEW

School-to-School Partnership (S-T-S) Activities and MAY FUNDRAISER FOR THE TSUNAMI CHILDREN IN SRI LANKA–MALAYSIA-KATRINA REGIONS
Penn Pal Activities: Befriend and partner with a school by exchanging
personal and educational information. This will lead into a better global
understanding among the students, faculty and community and will facilitate future international course work and exchange programs for the students, faculty, and community leaders and partners. Currently, we received a packet from the School for Children and youth Development Centre (CYDC) which contain many cards and letters from the orphaned students at this school. These letters were shared with the Easterly Parkway Elementary School students through the school administration

Adopt-An-Orphaned-Student Activities: We have started a fund raising project for this purpose in cooperation with a group of Penn State students enrolled in a class: 497INTAG-International Service Leadership Experience (ISLE). As a result, a sum of $500.00 was raised and sent to the CYDC with Ms. Vindhya Panagoda, a visiting scholar from Sri Lanka. See the donation check below

TGIP TSUNAMI PROJECT LINKS THE SCASD STUDENTS WITH THE SRI LANKAN STUDENTS AT THE CHILDREN & YOUTH CENTRE (CYC) VIA PEN PAL/ADOPT-A-SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP PROJECT: This project encourages the youth from both nations to learn about each others culture, values, language and express their feelings and emotions related to tsunami tragedy by exchanging letters, postcards and art work. Many students are excited about future exchange programs.

Students, orphaned by the tsunami, at the CYDC are preparing postcards for their partners in SCASD (Left). Mt. Nittany Middle School, SCASD students and Malcolm send their greetings to CYDC students in SL (Right).

Children of the Tsunami Victims are provided special health care, computer and ESL education by the "CYC", thanks to the vision of the founder Dr. Asoka, Jayasena, MD, in Sri Lanka. Special thanks are extended to local mural artist Michael Pilato and SCASD Superintendent Dr. Patricia Best for their leadership and continuous support in initiating and maintaining this project.
