Develops Support Projects for Katrina Generation

KATRINA + FRESH START HISTORY (9.20.05)

September 1, 2005

A group of concern community leaders and volunteers (Pastor David Janssen, C&MA; U.B. Bakker, TGIP; Mr. Malcolm Kuno, PSU; and Ms. Julie Mochan, PNC) met at Rider Auto, assisting with the packing of donations, organizing volunteers and establishing a sustainable directions for the Community Katrina Assistance Efforts which resulted with a new community collaboration called “KATRINA + FRESH START”. 

A Leadership Team, to provide sustainable local program direction, was established as follows:

Dr. U.B. Bakker: (571-0387) Community Liaison

Pastor David Janssen: (231-3967) Liaison with Faith Based Institutions

Mr. Malcolm Kuno: (425-422-3374) Liaison PSU

Mr. Chuck Rider: Liaison with Local Business

More than 20 community representatives met at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, discussed and established an Advisory Council for the KATRINA+FRESH START. The Council will be co-chaired by Thelma “Mom” Price, Pastor David Janssen and Tuvia Abramson and will advise the Leadership Team.

September 13, 2005

K+FS Advisory Council meeting took place at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, hosted by Pastor Jansen, at 12-Noon. New members attending: Ellie Beaver, Exec Dir of United Way; Barb Ballenger, CERA; Dave Beppler, Presbyterian Church; Lenna Gill, PICC; Isa Hafalir, Dialog Forum; Eric Tober, Evangelical Free Church; Tom Jacobs, St. Paul; Bryce Boyer, CMA; and Captain Pat Neidermyer, Salvation Army.

Major Goals and Projects Outline:

1. Support for the Displaced Families. Task Force: Pat and Chuck Niedermyer

2. Continue to support the Chuck Riders’ Nittany Katrina Project: Julie Mochan

3. Collaborate with local schools via Dr. Best and Principal Ishler: Dr. Bakker & Kuno

4.Advise Representative Lynn Herman, for the Katrina aid project: Dr. Bakker

5. PSU Connections: 497A.Leadership Experience Students, Student Advisory Council,

6.Cooperation with Kiwanis Club, Civic Organizations and churches: Price and Janssen

7. Reconstruction Aid: B.P. Babb and M. Kuno

8. Developing an information network for the local Katrina activities via media: CDT and Channel 6 will disseminate K+FS projects news. TGIP will provide web space for the K+FS.
